Timi Frank Appeals to Trump for Support on Nigeria’s 2027 Elections

Timi Frank, a former leader in Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress party, has written an open letter to US President Donald Trump. In the letter, he asks for support in making sure the general elections in Nigeria in 2027 are fair and credible.

Frank’s letter, titled “No Mandate From Fraud: Election 2027,” calls on the US government to promote measures that ensure electoral integrity. He believes that early diplomatic efforts can help build trust in Nigeria’s electoral process.

He expressed concerns about how the public views the Independent National Electoral Commission, which oversees elections in Nigeria. Frank emphasized that it is crucial to act before the elections take place, not after, to support the integrity of the electoral process.

Frank suggested that the US consider sending a high-level delegation to Nigeria. He believes this could help encourage Nigerian political leaders and electoral authorities to commit to a credible election process.

He also highlighted the importance of neutrality among electoral officials and security personnel during the elections. Frank stated that these individuals should protect voters regardless of their political affiliations.

In his letter, he linked fair elections to better leadership, economic growth, and national stability. He argued that improving governance could help address issues that lead to migration from Nigeria.

Frank’s proposal aims to strengthen cooperation between Nigeria and the United States in areas like security and economic development. He urged the Trump administration to prioritize electoral integrity in its diplomatic efforts with Nigeria as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
