New Air Defence Regiment to Enhance Security and Development in Delta State

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has announced the establishment of an Air Defence Regiment as part of the 83 Division of the Nigerian Army. This new unit is set to strengthen security in the state and protect important national assets.

During a recent visit to the Army’s Air Defence Unit, Oborevwori mentioned that more than 300 troops are expected to arrive in the coming weeks. He was accompanied by military officials, including Major General Thompson Ugiagbe and Brigadier General Ibrahim Buhari.

The governor emphasized that the state government is committed to supporting the military and other security agencies. He noted that the new division, which includes Delta, Edo, and Bayelsa states, will improve the Army’s ability to handle security threats.

Oborevwori explained that the Air Defence unit’s location in Delta is strategic due to the state’s proximity to the airport. He added that the state has provided land for a temporary facility while a permanent site is being arranged.

According to the governor, improved security has already led to a decrease in armed robbery, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in Delta. He believes that the new military presence will help protect critical infrastructure, especially in the oil and gas sector.

Oborevwori praised the Nigerian Army for their efforts in maintaining peace and protecting the community. He stated that his administration will continue to work closely with security agencies to enhance safety and encourage investment in the state.

He also directed state officials to assess the temporary site for the Air Defence unit to ensure it is ready for operations soon. The governor reiterated that security is a key part of his administration’s development plans, as peace is essential for economic growth.
