Ekiti Governor Proposes N490.74 Billion Budget Focused on Roads and Infrastructure

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has proposed a budget of N490.74 billion for the 2027 fiscal year. He presented this plan to the House of Assembly, highlighting a strong focus on roads and infrastructure projects.

The budget, named the “Budget of Sustained Progress and Prosperity,” includes N275.68 billion for regular expenses and N215.05 billion for capital projects. This means that about 56% of the budget is for ongoing costs, while 44% is for new projects.

Governor Oyebanji stated that N147.98 billion, or 69% of the capital budget, will be dedicated to the economic sector. This will support major investments in roads, agriculture, and water services. Some of the road projects planned include the 30.2-kilometre Oke-Ayedun-Ipao-Oke-Ako-Irele road and the 17.4-kilometre Ita-Ido-Ido-Ile-Okemesi Junction road.

In addition to road construction, the budget aims to improve agriculture by funding land clearing, livestock development, and farm roads. The health sector will also see renovations of health facilities across the state and the completion of new general hospitals.

Governor Oyebanji emphasized the importance of education, planning to invest in schools and universities, including the pharmacy building at Ekiti State University. He also mentioned plans to support people with special needs and improve security through investments in safety projects.

To fund the budget, the governor projected revenues from federal allocations, taxes, and loans, expecting a total of N139.85 billion from federal sources alone. He noted that the state’s revenue has increased significantly over the past few years, attributing this growth to better management and economic reforms.
