President Tinubu Pays Tribute to Ralph Obioha, Pro-Democracy Leader

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his sadness over the death of Chief Ralph Obioha, a former lawmaker and a significant figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement. Tinubu shared his condolences in a message released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu described Obioha as a patriot who made important sacrifices for democracy in Nigeria. He extended his sympathies to Obioha’s family, his community, the people of Abia State, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo group, and all Nigerians mourning his loss.

Obioha was a founding member and a prominent leader of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), which fought for the restoration of democracy after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election. Tinubu noted that Obioha’s dedication to this cause came at a significant personal cost, yet he remained committed to his beliefs.

“Despite the challenges and pressures of those difficult years, he remained steadfast in his belief that Nigeria’s destiny was inseparable from democracy, justice, and the right of the Nigerian people to choose their leaders,” Tinubu stated.

The President emphasized the importance of remembering those who stood firm during tough times in Nigeria’s history. He praised Obioha as a courageous individual who fought for democratic ideals and contributed to a better Nigeria.

Tinubu called Obioha’s passing a loss not only to his family and community but to the entire nation. He prayed for comfort for Obioha’s family and for his soul to find eternal rest.

“May the memory of Chief Ralph Obioha endure as a reminder that building a nation requires courage, sacrifice, conviction, and faith,” Tinubu added.
