Delta State Warns of Fake Tax Agents Targeting Businesses
Delta State is facing an issue with fake revenue agents who are pretending to be officials from the Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS). These impostors are using fake tax documents to issue notices to businesses and other organizations, aiming to trick people into giving them money.
Solomon Ighrakpata, the Executive Chairman of DSIRS, called this behavior a crime that could damage public trust in the state’s tax system. He emphasized that the DSIRS has not authorized anyone to collect taxes or issue tax notices outside of official channels.
Taxpayers are encouraged to be cautious and verify any tax-related documents or payment requests they receive. Ighrakpata advised that payments should only be made through official government channels and that any suspicious activity should be reported to the DSIRS.
The DSIRS is working with law enforcement to find and prosecute those responsible for these fraudulent activities. Ighrakpata warned that such scams could lead to financial losses for taxpayers and disrupt the state’s revenue system.
He reassured the public that paying legitimate taxes is essential for maintaining public services and infrastructure. The DSIRS is committed to ensuring a transparent and trustworthy tax administration process and urges everyone to remain alert and cooperate in combating tax fraud.
