Tragic Tanker Fire in Cross River Claims Two Lives

Two people have died after a tanker fire broke out in Odukpani, Cross River State, on Sunday. The incident occurred near the Odukpani Local Government Secretariat when two tanker trucks carrying petroleum products collided, leading to a fire.

The fire quickly spread to nearby shops, buildings, and vehicles, causing significant damage. According to the Cross River State Police Command, the driver of one tanker was rescued and taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries. The conductor of the tanker also died at the scene.

The police initially reported one death and stated that another person was seriously injured. However, they later confirmed the deaths of both the driver and the conductor. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.

Officers from the Odukpani Police Division were sent to the scene to maintain order and secure the area. The Fire Service was also called to help extinguish the flames. While many shops and vehicles were affected, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The police have advised residents and drivers to avoid the area to allow emergency responders to work without obstruction. They promised to provide more information as it becomes available. This incident has raised concerns about the risks associated with petroleum tanker accidents, especially in crowded areas where a fire can spread rapidly.
