Pastor Adeboye’s RCCG Donates $265,854 to Fly 500 Distressed Nigerians Out of South Africa

The Federal Government has expressed deep appreciation to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, after the church contributed $265,854 to help evacuate distressed Nigerians caught in renewed waves of xenophobic and Afrophobic hostility in South Africa.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in an official statement signed by its spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, confirmed that the church’s financial intervention will directly cover 500 one-way air tickets for citizens seeking urgent passage back home.

The government described the gesture as a profound demonstration of christian compassion and national solidarity, emphasizing that meaningful synergy between public institutions and faith-based organisations remains vital in resolving urgent social emergencies and safeguarding vulnerable citizens abroad.

Providing an update on ongoing repatriation efforts, the foreign ministry revealed that 1,640 Nigerian nationals have been successfully brought back to the country since emergency airlift operations began in June. The Federal Government fully financed the return of 1,385 individuals, while philanthropic interventions covered the travel expenses of another 255 returnees.

Authorities further disclosed that 202 additional citizens are currently being processed through final profiling and documentation by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs in preparation for upcoming repatriation flights.

The government reaffirmed that the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria and the Consulate General in Johannesburg remain fully mobilised alongside local diaspora community groups to register and assist every Nigerian who wishes to leave.

Reiterating its commitment to citizen diplomacy, federal authorities stated that Nigeria will continue active diplomatic engagements with South African authorities to end attacks on its nationals, while actively welcoming further partnerships with humanitarian organizations to ensure no distressed citizen is left behind.
