Police Chief Vows Revenge as 10 Gallant Officers Slain in Kebbi Bandit Ambush Are Honored

Emotion ran high at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja as Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu led senior officers and grieving families in a solemn memorial service for 10 officers of the Special Intervention Squad who lost their lives during a bloody encounter with bandits in Kebbi State.

The fallen officers were part of an elite tactical squad deployed along the volatile border between Kebbi and Zamfara states. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives intercepted a heavily armed gang of over 200 bandits riding motorcycles through the Rafin Makuku area in Sakaba Local Government Area, leading to a fierce two-hour gun duel.

Details reveal that the officers fought with exceptional bravery, killing at least 17 attackers and destroying several operational motorcycles before joint reinforcements secured the axis. Tragically, 10 police officers, one local vigilante, and two civilians lost their lives in the clash, while two other personnel sustained serious injuries.

Addressing the bereaved families during the memorial service, IGP Disu pledged that the police force would provide continuous welfare support to the dependents of the deceased, declaring that their ultimate sacrifice would never be forgotten. The police chief emphasized that security agencies will not be intimidated by criminal groups, vowing that joint operations with the military will continue across the region until all fleeing members of the gang are tracked down and brought to justice.
