Hon. Adebayo Adedamola Secures PDP Governorship Ticket After Governor Adeleke’s Exit, Polls 919 Votes in Primary

Hon. Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola has officially emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2026 Osun State election, following a primary exercise conducted in Osogbo Today Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

The primary was held amid high security and was monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP national leadership. Announcing the outcome, the chairman of the Primary Committee, Humphrey Abba, confirmed that 957 delegates were accredited for the exercise.

Adedamola secured an overwhelming majority, polling 919 votes out of the total votes cast. Mr. Abba declared Adedamola the winner, noting that the victory came after the withdrawal of the other aspirant whose name appeared on the ballot. The exercise was conducted shortly after the incumbent Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, formally made public his resignation from the PDP, a development the party acknowledged before the voting commenced.

Although Governor Adeleke’s name remained on the ballot, party officials informed delegates that any votes cast for the resigned governor would eventually be wasted, urging them to follow the guidelines. Adedamola, who is popularly known as ‘Fryo’, is now set to fly the PDP flag in the gubernatorial election slated for 2026, marking a significant step in the state’s evolving political dynamics following the sudden departure of the incumbent governor from the party platform.
